Reasons for a Lump on Top of the Foot

A lump on top of the foot can develop for many reasons, and it is important to have it examined to identify the cause. The human foot contains 26 bones, along with joints, tendons, and soft tissues, all of which may be involved. A soft, fluid-filled lump on top of the foot may be a ganglion cyst, often forming near tendons or joints. A lipoma is a harmless fatty lump beneath the skin. Hard lumps may result from bone spurs, which are bony overgrowths linked to arthritis or repetitive pressure. Fractures, including small stress fractures, can also create a painful bump in response to injury or overuse. Gout, which occurs when uric acid crystals collect in a joint, often produces a swollen, tender lump near the big toe. Other causes include tendonitis, bursitis, bunions, or, in rare cases, rheumatoid nodules or benign tumors. A podiatrist can examine the lump, determine its cause, and recommend appropriate treatment, which may include surgery. If you have an unexplained lump on top of your foot, it is suggested that you schedule an appointment with a podiatrist for an exam and treatment options.

Why Skin May Peel Between the Toes

Skin peeling between the toes is often caused by moisture and friction, but several foot-related issues may also be responsible. One common reason is a fungal infection, often picked up in places like locker rooms or pool areas. This can cause peeling, itching, and cracks between the toes. Blisters from rubbing or minor injuries can also peel as they heal. If the skin stays wet for too long, it may soften and break down, especially in cold or damp conditions. In people with diabetes, peeling skin between the toes may be a sign of a sore that is not healing well. In rare cases, peeling may also be linked to a skin infection that causes swelling, warmth, or pain. A podiatrist can examine your feet, identify what is causing the peeling, and provide the right treatment. If the skin between your toes is peeling and becoming problematic, it is suggested that you make an appointment with a podiatrist for a diagnosis and treatment options.

Toe pain can disrupt your daily activities. If you have any concerns, contact David Lambarski, DPM of Northeast Foot Care. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

  • Sports injury
  • Wearing shoes that are too tight
  • Arthritis
  • Gout
  • Corns and calluses
  • Hammertoe

When to See a Podiatrist

  • Severe pain
  • Persistent pain that lasts more than a week
  • Signs of infection
  • Continued swelling
  • Pain that prevents walking

Diagnosis

Peroneal tendinopathy is a condition involving irritation or degeneration of the peroneal tendons, which run along the outer side of the ankle and foot. These tendons help stabilize the foot and support balance during walking or running. Causes include overuse, improper footwear, high-impact activities, or ankle instability. Symptoms include aching or sharp pain along the outer ankle, swelling, weakness, or a feeling of instability. Without treatment, the condition may worsen and limit mobility. A podiatrist can evaluate the problem through physical examination and imaging, then provide care with rest plans, bracing, or custom orthotics. If you experience persistent outer ankle pain, it is suggested that you visit a podiatrist for a tailored treatment plan and long-term relief.

Ankle pain can have many different causes and the pain may potentially be serious. If you have ankle pain, consult with David Lambarski, DPM from Northeast Foot Care. Our doctor will assess your condition and provide you with quality foot and ankle treatment.

  • Types of arthritis (rheumatoid, osteoarthritis, and gout)
  • Ankle sprains
  • Broken ankles
  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Achilles tendon rupture

  • Plantar fasciitis

Symptoms

Symptoms of ankle injury vary based upon the condition. Pain may include general pain and discomfort, swelling, aching, redness, bruising, burning or stabbing sensations, and/or loss of sensation.

Diagnosis

Due to the wide variety of potential causes of ankle pain, podiatrists will utilize a number of different methods to properly diagnose ankle pain. Understanding Flat Feet

Flat feet, also known as fallen arches, occur when the arches of the feet collapse, causing the entire sole to make contact with the ground. This condition can appear from birth or develop over time due to aging, injury, obesity, or medical conditions such as arthritis. Symptoms may include foot pain, swelling, fatigue, or discomfort in the ankles, knees, or lower back. Some people with flat feet may experience difficulty standing for long periods or walking without strain. A podiatrist can evaluate the structure and function of the feet, provide customized orthotics for support, recommend strengthening exercises, and address related complications. If you were born with flat feet, it is suggested that you are under the care of a podiatrist who can address existing foot discomfort and help you manage your foot health.

Flatfoot is a condition many people suffer from. If you have flat feet, contact David Lambarski, DPM from Northeast Foot Care. Our doctor will treat your foot and ankle needs.

What Are Flat Feet?

Flatfoot is a condition in which the arch of the foot is depressed and the sole of the foot is almost completely in contact with the ground. About 20-30% of the population generally has flat feet because their arches never formed during growth.

Conditions & Problems:

Having flat feet makes it difficult to run or walk because of the stress placed on the ankles.

Alignment – The general alignment of your legs can be disrupted, because the ankles move inward which can cause major discomfort.

Knees – If you have complications with your knees, flat feet can be a contributor to arthritis in that area.

Symptoms

  • Pain around the heel or arch area
  • Trouble standing on the tip toe
  • Swelling around the inside of the ankle
  • Flat look to one or both feet
  • Having your shoes feel uneven when worn

Treatment

If you are experiencing pain and stress on the foot you may weaken the posterior tibial tendon, which runs around the inside of the ankle.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our offices located in Amsterdam and Clifton Park, NY . We offer the newest diagnostic and treatment technologies for all your foot care needs.

Definition and Symptoms of Corns

Corns on the feet are thick, hardened areas of skin that develop from repeated pressure or friction, often on the toes or soles. They are caused by wearing ill-fitting shoes, abnormal gait, or prolonged standing. Symptoms include a rough, raised bump surrounded by inflamed skin and tenderness when pressure is applied. Risk factors include wearing tight shoes, having foot deformities like hammertoes or bunions, or walking barefoot on hard surfaces. A podiatrist can identify the root cause, safely remove the corn, and recommend footwear changes or custom orthotics to prevent recurrence. For relief from painful corns and long-term prevention, it is suggested that you consult a podiatrist trained in treating common and complex foot conditions.

Corns can make walking very painful and should be treated immediately. If you have questions regarding your feet and ankles, contact David Lambarski, DPM of Northeast Foot Care. Our doctor will treat your foot and ankle needs.

Corns: What Are They? And How Do You Get Rid of Them?
Corns are thickened areas on the skin that can become painful. They are caused by excessive pressure and friction on the skin. Corns press into the deeper layers of the skin and are usually round in shape.

Ways to Prevent Corns
There are many ways to get rid of painful corns such as:

  • Wearing properly fitting shoes that have been measured by a professional
  • Wearing shoes that are not sharply pointed or have high heels
  • Wearing only shoes that offer support

Treating Corns

Although most corns slowly disappear when the friction or pressure stops, this isn’t always the case. Consult with your podiatrist to determine the best treatment option for your case of corns.
